"Wooden boats insist on the grace and beauty from the wood they are crafted. Each craft takes on its own character revealing the passion and dedication of the builder. From their very beginnings, throughout the test of time, they become rich with memories and provide stories to be shared amongst family and friends that shall endure."
"Perhaps the character of the boat is reflective of the owner's personality." JH

A few years back I went on an expedition with a few friends to the Boundary Waters in Northern MN. This is a wilderness area and in many parts only accessible by non-powered watercrafts. Wow, nature at its best, untouched and pristine. When I returned I told my wife I wanted to buy a canoe, she agreed. I soon found there was a difference of opinion on the type, she thought a $300 poly molded model would fit the bill and I had intentions of a high end style made of Kevlar. In my search for options, I found several plans for strip build models made of Cedar and sheathed in fiberglass. Hmm, I think I can do this and the end result, if done correctly, would be as good as anything one could buy. And so it began… plans and materials were purchased from www.newfound.com... I changed the plans and added detail to get the look I wanted. Before the first boat was even completed I started thinking about ideas I had for next one…and the next...
Caution! Wooden boat building can be highly addictive... only attempt this if you are willing to give up many of your other activities.
Reflecting back, I am thankful for my friends and the journey that led me to this discovery of my new found passion.
